Ernest P. Worrell (Jim Varney) goes through Splashtranaut training to become the first rider on Disneyland’s Splash Mountain.
This promotional TV special aired prior Ernest Goes to Camp as part of The Wonderful World of Disney time slot in 1989.
While we’re on the subject of Splash Mountain, here’s another gem from 1989: Splash Mountain Rap!
Interesting Sidenote: Splash Mountain was based on characters, stories, and songs from the controversial Disney film Song of the South (1946). The film has never been released in its entirety on home video in the United States because of the subject matter, which Disney executives thought might be viewed by some as politically incorrect and racist toward black people.
