This 7-Up ad from 1982 features Pac-Man and a variation on Kim Carnes’ “Bette Davis Eyes”.
The movie’s plot is a combination of L. Frank Baum’s novels The Marvelous Land of Oz and Ozma of Oz, sequels to the novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. Six months after returning from the Land of Oz, Dorothy Gale has become a melancholic child who cannot stop dreaming of the people she met in the magical land
This was one of my favorite movies growing up. I think it’s an interesting take on the Oz mythology and surprisingly dark for a Disney movie.
Honestly, if you have any interest in seeing it, you should skip these clips and just watch the whole movie.
Here are some of the scarier scenes:
Dorothy going in for shock treatment at the asylum
The decapitated heads of Princess Mombi
Final encounter with the Gnome King
Anyone else have fond (or traumatic) memories of this film?
Excerpt from their Facebook event page:
Inspired by “Manos – The Hands of Fate,” Mystery Science Theater 3000, and the story behind “Manos”, MANOS – THE HANDS OF FELT features characters, scenes and songs from the original movie, cut with a healthy dose of puppet mayhem.
A review from Seattlest.com:
For Manos – The Hands of Felt, Puppet This recreate the movie experience, down to the silent blips, and add the occasional sly reference to other pop-cultural phenomena, including Jim Henson’s popular creations, their company’s most obvious influence. Homages to Henson abound, from a pair of teenage lovers that closely resemble the allegedly closeted roommates from educational TV, to the insertion of the succession of quick jokes from The Muppet Show’s ballroom sequences in the middle of the large fight from the movie.
